After watching FMA I thought this arc in FMAB can't be worse but damn it still hurts. One of the most messed up arcs in anime till date.

That man is way to terrible for his wife & child. But it is way to rushed, such a shame.

You know, having watched this series a few times now, mostly in the dub and now watching both Dub and Sub along side each other to see how they differ. Upon rewatching this section of the story again I gotta say, Tucker really is a good character, he's not a good person but a good character, he's designed to be someone to hate and totally deserves what happened to him, but on a deeper level, Tucker is a good example of when Science goes too far, or when pressure from superiors creates so much stress someone can snap and do unthinkable things they know are wrong out of desperation. Honestly I'd love to see a side story of what Tucker was doing before he joined the military as an Alchemist, what pushed him to Transmute his own wife just to pass a certification Exam? He is scum for what he did but at the same time it's worth pointing out he didn't do what he did to Nina and Alexander for 2 whole years and only did it when the deadline for his recertification was coming up after failing it once already and if he failed again he was done, in which case he'd have killed his wife for nothing. Given the nature of his work and it wasn't a secret that he was working on Chimeras and other living life forms, the morality of his work only came into play when it was a human life being transmuted. For those rewatching we already know what kind of nation this is so honestly Tucker should have been well funded and probably could have gotten criminals sentenced to death as humans to use in his work, basically people no one would have cared about in the name of his research. It didn't have to be his daughter which it turned out to be. Tucker is one of the worst fathers in anime/manga, morally his work is in a borderline grey/black area of science, one that could have been perfected and is actually done so later in the series. For all of these reasons Tucker is a good character despite his crime against his daughter,

But he is, kind of. It is one thing to try and bring back someone to life and another to ruin someone who is already alive. What Edward did was to try and bring back his mother out of love for her. What tucker did was to ruin his daughter and create a chimera out of selfishness because he didn't want his status taken. He sacrificed his daughter for his selfish reasons, while Edward and Alphonse sacrificed themselves for another. Quite different
